20060828-Claire-in-Binondo.jpgWhile working on a story for Cosmo, I (with Cosmo managing ed Zo) found myself exploring areas in the city that I haven’t set foot on in ages…like Divisoria, Baclaran, Binondo, 168, and more. Well, the cheap prices and great finds were worth the sweat and the endless walking. Plus, we also got to sightsee and take pictures. Check out our mala-tourista pics in front of Binondo Church. Fun!

Here’s a teaser of some of the areas we visited. Read the rest of this entry »

Kina-reer

20060821-Nicole-and-Mariel.jpgI just finished writing my first beauty story for Cosmo and I’m so excited about it! There’s nothing like discovering a passion and being able to do something about it. There’s still a lot to learn, but I think it’ll be a fun process. When I was a fresh grad (which was like—gasp!—four years ago), I had no idea what I wanted to do. I gravitated towards a call center job and decided to give it a go. Although I moved up and made a few good friends, it wasn’t something I could see myself doing forever. After two years, I decided to risk it and quit. A few boring jobs later, I learned about an opening in Cosmo and gathered the courage to apply as an editorial assistant. It was my dream job then, and now, I’m discovering more things to love about it. What I learned from my job-hopping experiences: Sometimes you have to spend time doing something you really don’t want to do in order to find out where you want to be. Hope you find your passion and watch out for my Celebrity Tipid Tricks beauty story in the October issue :)

20060817-Claire-and-Rudie.jpgIt’s great that we’re such a barkada in Cosmo—aside from working together, we eat together, we have coffee together, we gimik together, we confide in each other, and we just look forward to seeing the whole team every day. Well, at least I do.

Pero kailangan din ng balance, di ba? To be well-rounded, you’ve got to have a life beyond the office—no matter how much you love your officemates! When I say that, I mean that it’s important to not neglect your friends outside the office.

I’m sure most of you have that super best friend whom you’ve grown up with or known since you were three years old. It’s the person you turn to whenever because you know she’s willing to listen and help with whatever.

The Antidote to Tiresome Things

IMG_3904.JPGEveryone is pretty exhausted at Cosmo, you can see it, you can feel it. It’s because we just finished the September issue with the 69 Bachelors and 10 Centerfolds booklet, plus we did some overtime on it so now we have to rush things to get working on the October issue. Everyone is tired, but everyone is coping. Thank god this weekend is a long one, and everyone has designs on making the most out of it!

I’ve been tired lately not just from a million things I have to hand in, write, meet for, and conceptualize (we have our big 10th year anniversary next year!), I’ve been tired of doing the same old things. So this past weekend, I decided to tweak my routine a little bit. My girlfriend and I went out on a dinner date. So instead of a bunch of us at a crazy noisy bar, it was just two of us at a quiet little restaurant, and it really cleared out the cobwebbed corners of my mind :)

Celebrating Cosmo’s Beauty Awards!

20060815-The-Girls-at-M-Cafe.jpgWhen we wrapped up the Makeover and Beauty issues (July and August), the girls and I went to M Café to celebrate over huge glasses of red wine. It was also our first night out with new fashion ed, Kat Dy, so we had more reason to feel festive.

I’m feeling excited about this month’s issue. And I’m pretty sure you’ll have a blast flipping through pages and pages of the best of the best in beauty! The whole staff worked hard to hand-pick, slather, and smooth medal-worthy get-gorgeous loot for our yearly Beauty Awards. We even devoted one whole afternoon just smelling and spritzing bottles and bottles of perfume! (We walked out of the room wobbly and dizzy from sniffing all those fragrances!)

Enjoy August, Cosmo girls! :)
