The Antidote to Tiresome Things

Everyone is pretty exhausted at Cosmo, you can see it, you can feel it. It’s because we just finished the September issue with the 69 Bachelors and 10 Centerfolds booklet, plus we did some overtime on it so now we have to rush things to get working on the October issue. Everyone is tired, but everyone is coping. Thank god this weekend is a long one, and everyone has designs on making the most out of it!
I’ve been tired lately not just from a million things I have to hand in, write, meet for, and conceptualize (we have our big 10th year anniversary next year!), I’ve been tired of doing the same old things. So this past weekend, I decided to tweak my routine a little bit. My girlfriend and I went out on a dinner date. So instead of a bunch of us at a crazy noisy bar, it was just two of us at a quiet little restaurant, and it really cleared out the cobwebbed corners of my mind :)
Next, (not that same night) I completely emptied out my car, down to the last coin and chewing gum wrapper. You see, I live out of my car, and I jampack it with press kits, clothes, shoes, hangers, laundry, receipts… I got tired of driving a cluttered, not to mention, filthy car, so just upped and emptied it out and took it in for detailing. That means an intense, detailed cleaning and steaming of every crevice and square inch of my vehicle inside and out, and it painfully costs around dinner for two at my favorite swanky resto, but when I got the car back, it felt and drove like it was brand new, and was worth every peso. I found a lot of crap in it while cleaning it out, including lots of makeup brushes, compacts, and little bits of cheese curls! Now, I’m a bit more eager to hit the road, and being stuck in traffic in a clean car is better than in a dingy one. (If only I could have my work desk detailed…)
Lastly, instead of going out to catch the latest Hollywood nonsense at the theatres with my husband, we decided to save a few hundred bucks on tickets snacks and parking, and stayed in, cuddled in bed, and watched DVDs of a great tv show with fantastic writing, Scrubs. The result? We got in some couple bonding time, free laughs, and an early night to bed without the sugar buzz of colas and chocolate bars.
I hope this new routine trick keeps working!
