Mi Amiga

It’s great that we’re such a barkada in Cosmo—aside from working together, we eat together, we have coffee together, we gimik together, we confide in each other, and we just look forward to seeing the whole team every day. Well, at least I do.
Pero kailangan din ng balance, di ba? To be well-rounded, you’ve got to have a life beyond the office—no matter how much you love your officemates! When I say that, I mean that it’s important to not neglect your friends outside the office.
I’m sure most of you have that super best friend whom you’ve grown up with or known since you were three years old. It’s the person you turn to whenever because you know she’s willing to listen and help with whatever.
My best friend is Rudie. That’s her with me in the photo, taken as we were prepping for a surprise birthday party for another friend. Her real name is Rhoda (but we just think Rudie is so cute!) and she works for an NGO in Quezon City. We’ve known each other since gradeschool and were roommates in college in UP. She knows me inside out, and totally understands everything I tell her. I see her almost every weekend. I live in Parañaque, so it’s really an effort sometimes to meet up. But somehow, we do. We are opposites—I’m quiet, she’s loud and lively, she loves being the life of the party, I prefer to be in the sidelines.
We call each other “Mig”—short for “Amiga.” I owe so much to her, and I never tire hanging out with her. As I grow older, the more I’ve come to appreciate how lucky I am to have a real best friend. If you have one, send her a text now or better, call her up, and make arrangements for coffee, dinner, or a sleepover!
i miss having a “real” best friend. i had one ages ago, but we had a falling out. we tried to patch things up, but we’ve become a total stranger. i have close friends and friends, but nothing beats the comfort of having a best friend. you are so blessed to have found a real best friend. treasure this blessing. :)
